Oak Cliff Protest, PETA in Dallas, and Vegan Zombie Movie!

Welcome back to another edition of this riveting, groundbreaking, thrilling newsletter… Just kidding. But before I get started on the big stuff. One quick update from me:

I’ve got a Tiktok now! If you use the app, feel free to follow. Or not. It’s your choice.

Okay, now to the headlines.

For the Love of Cats: Oak Cliff Protest Against David Spence of Good Space

David Spence is evil. That’s right. No mincing words here. A few months ago, a friend looped me in on the situation happening with a cat colony of Oak Cliff, right in the same area of Swirled Peace. David Spence, the owner of Good Space, had reportedly bragged about trapping cats and dumping them in other areas of Dallas where they have no food, water, have no safe access to leave, and are vulnerable to predators. He and his workers/contractors have purposely trashed and damaged supplies from local cat colony caretakers. But taking legal action has been tricky.

@catsinthecliff has documented this in a previous post on Instagram:

This story got picked up by Dallas Observer recently and they just published an article this week about it! You can read the more in-depth coverage here. Essentially, Spence is a former attorney and the stereotype of attorneys being cold and heartless is well and alive in this guy, unfortunately. He defends that it’s well within his rights to do this to them. A quick Google of the business, you’ll see that it as a 1.7 star rating! I wonder why.

The community has planned a protest in front of his business for:
Saturday, April 19th at 9 AM
Good Space
408 W Eighth St #103, Dallas, TX 75208

If you’d like to join, come prepared with water, signs, sunscreen, and your love for animals.

Events in Dallas

Karaoke + Vegan Food make for a good Thursday. Chef Daddy’s Plant Pleasures will be at Barbara’s Pavilion in Oak Cliff Thursday, April 17th starting at 8 PM. If you’ve the pipes, or at least the courage, get your friends and go karaoke-ing and come hungry!

PETA’s very own president, Ingrid Newkirk, will be in Dallas to deliver a talk about animal rights and advocacy. Attendance requires the purchase of a whopping $100 ticket, but this does get you:

  • vegan brunch

  • cocktails/mocktails

  • coffee without the milk-alternative upcharge!

  • chance to bid on their silent auction for cruelty-free vegan products

To read more details about the event and to purchase your ticket, click here. Registration closes Friday, April 18th.

Everyday Works, an Oak Cliff coffee shop favorite with vegan goodies sprinkled about, is having a full month of fun events:

For their April 19th events, my friend, Sicarra, is leading the yoga! Right after yoga, stay for Chef Frank. Instead of his usual sandwiches that day, he’ll be piling on some awesome nachos!

Vegan Zombie Movie? GRAAAINS

Did you know about Coffee Wars, a movie released in 2023 on Amazon Prime, about a vegan barista entering a barista competition in order to help save her coffee shop? Our vegan movie industry may be small, but we are mighty.

Well now for 2025, a new vegan movie is hitting the scenes, A44, a horror movie about a college student on a mission to find the cause of mysterious illness, which surprise, appears to be caused by the dairy and meat industry. This illness? It turns people into zombies. (Funny, because I think some of these staunch meat-eaters in real life are mindless zombies already.)

Looks like it's on limited release right now via Venmo purchase for access. The next viewing is Friday, April 18th. You can see how to view it on their IG here. Their official site: a44movie.com.
