August Wrap-Up & September Intro
The newsletter that keeps their ear to the ground so you don't have to!

🌟 Editor's Note
Welcome to another exciting (bi)weekly edition of DVI. I’m trying on a new outfit (newsletter template). We've got a packed newsletter full of events, insights, and more from the DFW vegan community.
🗓️ Upcoming Events
The Calendar & Extras
Las Almas Panadería has one last event at the end of August (Emo Is Forever Market at Four Corners Brewing), plus several more events throughout the month of September, all located on this very convenient post with dates and a calendar!
Somethin’ Sweet will be at Ten Bells in Oak Cliff this weekend with a select menu of vegan desserts!
The vegan buffet at Best Thai Signature (Addison) is back, baby! September 7th, 11 AM-3 PM.
This was received by their text subscription. I couldn’t find it anywhere on their socials.

DVI Fact: Dessert vendors have been dropped from calendar due to higher than average frequency of events. It got daunting to track. Sorry, sweets-makers!
DVI may or may not be at the Vegan Day Party as an official table! We’ll see if I can get a whole setup ready by then… Wish me luck. 🤞If not, I will still be there as a general supporter of the vendors and unpaid professional eater. 😅
💗 For the Animals
Cloven Heart Farm Sanctuary
Their 2nd Annual H.O.T. Summer Nights auction has come to a close. They were able to raise $1869 dollars. If you donated, thank you from the bottom of my heart. And if you didn’t, there’s always a chance to donate in the future! You can donate here (PayPal is best for fund availability and fees).
North Texas Wildlife Center
From their last updates on social media, they were so close to securing their new facility, but the loan officer has since moved the needle and requested additional funds for the down payment. They are so close to the finish line, but need help from the community once again. You can check ways to donate here.
As part of their fundraising efforts, they are having 4 brewery pop-ups September 15th through the 18th at Vector Brewing, Four Bullets Brewery, Intrinsic Smokehouse Brewery, and TUPPS Brewery respectively. They will likely bring some special guests of the furred or feathered type!
🦄 In the Spotlight
Dallas Plant-Powered Runners
A new vegan-oriented running group has popped up in Dallas! Started by Dr. Ellese Garcia, OTD, OTR/L, CPT, she has replaced ownership and revamped the former North Texas Vegan Runners group to be the now monikered Dallas Plant-Powered Runners (Vegan Running Club) on Facebook.
Fun fact: I am NOT a runner. Cardio and I are not friends. But we can be occasional acquaintances. And because cardio is important, I should probably go. Ellese emphasized that this group is not only for runners, but for all fitness levels. You’re encouraged to go at your own pace, whether it’s walking, jogging, or running—as long as you move your body.
Their first meetup was this past Wednesday at 6 PM at Flag Poll Hill Park in White Rock. If you’re like me—lives far and can’t make the travel during peak traffic on a weekday—don’t fret! Due to demand, she is scheduling the next run on Saturday, September 6th at 8 AM, this time starting at Reverie Bakeshop! The earlier start time helps avoid some of the heat and also gives us the rest of the day for errands and hangout plans!
Hope to see you all at the next run.

Vendor News Roundup
Iconic Vegan Cafe was temporarily closed due to being short-staffed. They had been advertising for positions periodically, but they just didn’t receive the response they needed. Luckily, after announcing the temporary closure, they were able to find not only staffing, but operations managers to assist with the business. They are now reopened! Here’s Otis, the owner, talking more on the topic.
Swirled Peace has not made an official post on it from what I can tell, but it has been seen in stories throughout the month. They have personal pizzas on the menu! I’ve had one, and they’re delicious. They are becoming a one-stop shop for munchies, with their previous addition of sub sandwiches, and special brownies on top of their soft serve.
Bam’s Vegan is still hiring! They’re looking for a kitchen manager. They don’t have an IG Post I can share as it’s only been on Stories.
Ruby’s Baking Co. has just announced here that they’re introducing bagels to their menu, and they look savory AF.
Taco Ocho - Richardson has closed. If you were a fan of their vegan-friendly menu and the close drive, you’re out of luck. They have their other locations still open in McKinney, Flower Mound, and Frisco.
Neitly Vegan Sweets was running a Batch Drop giveaway for two weeks on IG. Well that has since ended and announced that the winner will be picked Sept 1st. If you participated in the rules, be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
Also this is the last weekend to get her seasonal Key Lime Pie cookie. Thank goodness I will be in the area for DFW Veggie Lovers’ meetup at Depot Cafe only 5 minutes away. No one better buy them all from under me! Are you part of the meetup group yet? 😉
National News
Yves Veggie Cuisine has discontinued after 40 years. Man, I will absolutely miss their pepperoni and bologna slices because they were both tasty and affordable to compared to other brands.
🤑Deals of the Week (And Beyond)
Labor Day Special
Vegan Heat has a seafood boil special for pre-order. Check their post here.
Lunch Specials
Casa Del Vegano is running amazing Taco Tuesday special with $2 margaritas 🍸️and $12 meals like their birria ramen for Happy Hour.
Vegan Food House, their sister restaurant, is doing the same and running a $12 lunch special! They are also doing Sunday $5 Kids Meals.
Belenty’s Love is also still running Taco Tuesday with $25 getting you two burgers, fries, and drinks!
🔎DVI Adventures
I recently purchased the new Just Meat, the Chicken and the Sesame Ginger Chicken variety. I’ll be trying these out this weekend, along with the new Juicy Marbles Kinda Cod and Kinda Salmon. I’m excited but also nervous because I’m a terrible cook and I can easily ruin the intended texture of the “fysh.” More descriptions on the popcorn and spicy ramen in the post, if you’re interested.
You can only get Juicy Marbles online. But beware, they are pricey. Good thing I’ve got a $20 off referral link here for you!
I finally got to try Los Guapos vegan tacos! The last time I had their vegan options was when they were Guapo Taco inside the gas station caddy corner to Martin House Brewing in Fort Worth. I remember them being amazing, just like their “relative” restaurant Mariachi’s (that’s a whole ‘nother story). If you’re in the Fort Worth area, be sure to try their taco platter that comes with 10 tacos. They come in 4 proteins:
Al Pastor
Chorizo
Asada
Campechano
Till next time,
